I grew up on dairy farms in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont before leaving for the U.S. Air Force. I received my BA in English from the University of Maryland in Germany, and my J.D. from Vermont Law School. I am currently completing an MA in English from UVM. In addition to 30 years practicing law, I spent six years as a journalist and six as a newspaper editor.

My poems are based largely on the people and places that impacted me growing up. I included a few anecdotes and photographs contributed by area friends and family members. Some poems deviate from that, including a short poem about the bombing of Bagdad.  I was co-winner of the 1998 UVM Graduate Student Poetry Award.

I also write adult crime novels.
