Reasons to Support the Arts:
The arts are fundamental to our humanity. They ennoble and inspire us, foster creativity, goodness, and beauty, help us express our values, build bridges between cultures, and bring us together regardless of ethnicity, religion, or age.
Arts improve academic performance. Students with an education rich in the arts, regardless of socio-economic status, have higher GPAs, standardized test scores, college entrance rates, and lower drop-out rates.
Arts drive tourism and spur the local economy in providing valuable revenue for local artists, businesses, and community, including local restaurants, hotels, convenience stores, and more.
Arts mean business and strengthen the economy. The Arts create jobs, generate tax revenues, revitalize communities, and accelerate economic recovery.
Arts spark creativity and innovation. Art helps develop the broader sense of everyday life and provides environments which inspire creative thinking. Creativity in adulthood is often rooted when children are encouraged in art; as children express themselves and experiment freely in creating art, the inner wiring of innovation is built, along with confidence.
Arts have social impact. University of Pennsylvania researchers have demonstrated that a high concentration of the Arts in a city leads to higher civic engagement, more social cohesion, higher child welfare, and lower poverty rates.
Arts unify communities and give people a shared cultural experience regardless of age, race, and ethnicity, helping people to better understand themselves, their communities, and other cultures across all demographic and economic categories.
Arts improve individual well-being and are an effective resource in reducing depression and anxiety and in increasing life satisfaction.
