Martha (Patty) Oliver-Smith is the author of Martha’s Mandala, a biographical memoir of her grandmother, a visual artist who battled mental illness in her struggle to create her art in a time when the art world disdained “women artists.” (Spuyten Duyvil Publishing, 2015). An essay, “My Mother’s Desk” was recently published in the anthology Writers and Their Mothers (Palgrave/MacMillan, 2018). Oliver-Smith lives with her husband, two cats, a dog and some chickens in the NEK where she writes poetry, essays and is working on a second memoir.
