Here’s What Is Happening…

A basket weaving workshop with artist member Nathalie Clement will be held on December 13th from 10 am- 1p.m. at the Memphremagog Arts Collaborative (MAC) at 158 Main Street in Newport. All participants will have a finished woven “Fonest” basket in the Native American tradition of weaving to take home at the end of the workshop.

“Fonest is a word I made up and had it registered in Canada,” said Clement, of Montreal. “It stands for phone-nest but these baskets can be used for many other things, too. The principle idea of the basket is to disconnect; to put your phone down so making the basket is the first step in disconnecting. We’re missing so much valuable social interaction.”

The workshop cost for materials is $30 for adults and $15 for students. Please call the gallery at 802.334.1966 to register, as space is limited.
